About Youth INtact
Youth INtact is the name of the new service/approach that Waikato DHB has funded that aims to improve the way alcohol and other drug services are provided to rangatahi/young people and their family/whānau in the Waikato.
The new approach has been developed with extensive feedback from clinicians, communities, rangatahi/young people and their family/whānau. There has also been an increase in resources applied through the new approach to increase accessibility to our youth.
This will mean rangatahi/young people and their family/whānau will have quick and easy access to youth friendly and youth specific services that are wraparound, holistic and culturally responsive. They will also be able to get help early and services will make sure they follow up quickly when there is a problem.
It will also mean a change to existing arrangements across the Waikato.
The Waikato DHB has established the Youth INtact brand and logo with input from youth. (We are now working on building a new website for Youth INtact and all the promotional / information material that comes with a new service.
Along with the Youth Intact brand comes quality controls and rules of engagement, which require a greater level of consistency and transparency from all child and youth alcohol and other drug services. Only Youth INtact providers will hold Waikato DHB community alcohol and other drug agreements for rangatahi and young people from 1 October 2016.
There will be a number of changes occurring in the sector over the next few months as the new Youth INtact requirements are phased in. All Youth INtact services will be fully operating across the Waikato from 1 October 2016. We are working with the sector and service providers to support the processes during change over and ensure things go as smoothly as possible and that no young people or whanau miss out on services.
We also would like to acknowledge and thank those who have contributed and supported the process and also to those services that may not be continuing with providing community child and youth alcohol and drug services for the DHB.
We look forward to our services working together under the Youth INtact brand to ensure rangatahi/young people and their family/whānau receive the assistance they need.
