Services we provide
Predominantly an outpatient service based at Hastings, we have medical oncologists on site working with the wider multi-disciplinary team including specialised cancer nurses.
Chemotherapy treatment is provided locally and includes outreach sites to Napier and Wairoa when clinically safe to do so.
We work in partnership with our colleagues at MidCentral district who provide visiting radiation oncologists and haematologists. Patients requiring radiation therapy travel to Palmerston North for this treatment.
Our cancer support team provides support to patients and whānau on their cancer journey and includes an equity navigator that works alongside whānau hapu and iwi.
Hospital Palliative Care Team
We provide an inpatient palliative care advisory service, whilst you are in hospital, we work alongside your primary medical team to provide specialist advice and to ensure you receive the best person centre care for both the patients and whanau.
The Hospital Palliative Care Team consists of:
- 1 specialist palliative care consultant
- 3 clinical nurse specialists
- 1 registered nurse.
Our service hours 7:30am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
Outside these hours if support is needed to the patients on the ward our inpatient hospital team has access to an on call service provided by Cranford Hospice.
