Hapū Wānanga ki Tainui
A series of FREE kaupapa Māori Pregnancy Education Wānanga for all residence in the Waikato area.
- One Day Hapū Wānanga is a condensed wānanga that includes pregnancy changes, stages of labour, birthing, pain relief, medical intervention, parenting, safe sleep and breastfeeding (every month, usually on a Friday or Saturday). This wānanga is best suited for whānau in their second and third trimesters (over 20 weeks).
- Breastfeeding WaiŪ Wānanga is a 2.5hour Pregnancy Breastfeeding Wānanga that includes preparing for baby, positioning, latching, breast and nipple care and tips and tricks on how to breastfeed successfully. We also cover some of the basics of sleep, settling and early parenting (every 6 weeks, usually on a Wednesday)
- Wahakura Waikawa Wānanga is a wānanga where you can learn to weave your very own Wahakura Waikawa (Safe Sleep Bed) for pēpi alongside specialist weavers (four times a year, usually on a Friday or Saturday)
- Te Kākano Early pregnancy Wānanga is a 2.5hr kaupapa Māori antenatal wānanga designed to support wāhine hapū and their whānau during the early stages of pregnancy. This wānanga is best suited for whānau in their first and second trimesters (under 20 weeks). It offers guidance and tools to help set the foundation for a healthy, well and positive hapūtanga.
- Postnatal Wānanga is a 2.5hour wānanga focusing on the transitional phase of welcoming pēpi into te ao mārama, interweaved with Mātauranga Māori providing holistic guidance on physical recovery, emotional wellbeing, and nurturing pēpi, covering breastfeeding, bonding, self-care, whānau support, and navigating the early stages of parenting.
